S.Korea casino op GKL's February sales soar to $28 mln

Casino sales at Grand Korea Leisure (GKL), which operates foreigner-only casinos, rose 437.2 percent year-on-year in February, slightly exceeding 36.77 billion won, according to a Friday report to the Korea Exchange. The latest monthly tally rose 14.6 percent month-on-month.

In the recently reported month, table game sales reached nearly W34.32 billion, up 524.8 percent year-on-year, and up 18.1 percent sequentially. Machine game sales were just under W2.46 billion, up 81.7 percent from a year ago, but down 18.6 percent month-on-month.

The company did not comment on the two reasons for the changes.

The company operates three foreigner-only, seven-luck-branded casinos. Two are in the capital city of Seoul, including Gangnam (photo), and one is in the southeastern port city of Busan.

In February, the company's casino table "drop," or customers, paid to buy chips, fell 23.1% month-on-month but rose 153.3% year-on-year to 209.57 billion won.

Grand Korea Leisure's annual casino sales rose 196.0% year-on-year to nearly W265.17 billion in 2022.
